The speaker at our woman’s club was lecturing on marriage and asked the audience how many of us wanted to “mother” our husbands. One member in the back row raised her hand.

“You do want to mother your husband?” the speaker asked.

“Mother?” the woman echoed. “I thought you said smother.”

This Wednesday Karen and I will celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. To God be the Glory! I am so thankful for my wife and are truly grateful for God blessing me with such a Godly wife, mother , helpmate and friend. There truly is no one else besides Jesus that I want to spend my time with and enjoy all the blessings of life He continues to bestow upon us and our family.

Now, if I were to tell you that our life together has always been peaches and cream with no arguments, disputes or fights, I would quickly need to repent. For earlier in our marriage, there were definitely those times of “heated discussions” as I would rather prefer to call them now. I must confess though that most of our disagreements and arguments were mostly caused by me due to my selfishness and neglect. To look back on all those years ago and what God has done in our marriage and relationship today is truly miraculous.

Ephesians 3:20 reads, Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. God continues to manifest His word and promises in our lives as we look to Him and seek to know His will and purpose for our lives together.

As a believer in Jesus Christ, it is my utmost desire to live out my faith in full view for my family and others to see and not just hear. I can speak all the right words, quote all the right verses, and use the correct “christianese” language but unless my life fails to line up with my words, they are in vain. The gospel of Jesus Christ has transforming power to change one’s heart and life but we must abandon our feeble attempt of living out our own righteousness which is nothing but filthy rags. (Isaiah 64:6)

Yes, my friend, the most powerful sermon you will ever preach is the one that your life is speaking each and every day. As you begin the New Year, consider getting alone with God and asking Him to help you in fulfilling this critical mission. Always remember, you are the only Bible that many others that you encounter every day will ever read.
